Film Slate Marker

A fashion film inspired by the 1977 Italian Giallo supernatural horror film directed by Dario Argento, co-written by Argento and Daria Nicolodi. About a girl who attends ballet school in Germany but is soon to find out strange things happen in this particular school.

This was a zero budget short film. Every aspect of this project was sourced for free, that includes, costume, vehicles, location, equipment and man-power.

The film could not have been made without the help of many participants, in particular the locations used to shoot in. Those locations include the 'Thunderbird House' located in Poole, Dorset, a replica of the original Tracey Island mansion and the 'Believe it or Not' museum in Central London. Both of these locations were perfect for creating the esoteric yet eerie aesthetic needed.

Images and a written piece were featured in Anon Magazine and the film is now the official music video for Giovanna - Let Go of Yourself.

The make-up in this film is designed to develop as time goes on. Originally the character starts of angelic with freckles on her face, bushy brows and orange lids, but still with a hint of quirkiness thanks to the dark purple lip. Then, as soon as she steps into the house, it changes, RED appears; on her hands, on her face. This colour is dominant in this film, which is why it's kept bright, but to also keep in continuation with the use of 'fake blood' used in the original Suspiria. As well as this, black lines start to appear on the girls face and get more and more apparent as her journey progresses, till eventually she is succumbed by these 'demons' that envelope her and she becomes something new, a far cry from the sweet girl who entered that house. These subtle changes that happen throughout the film tell the important story of how the character is changing and moulding because of her surroundings.
